YouTube is working on a sleep timer feature that will prevent devices from continuing to play videos for hours and automatically playing other videos after you sleep.
The popular video sharing platform has started testing the Sleep Time feature for desktop and mobile devices. This feature allows you to set a timer to automatically pause playback after a certain amount of time. In this way, even if you fall asleep in front of the screen, the video is paused after a while. If you are a YouTube Premium subscriber, you can test this feature by going to the YouTube Experiments official page.
YouTube says on its experiments page that the Sleep Timer feature will be available until September 2. After signing up, start playing a video on your desktop computer. Then tap the gear icon on the player and then tap the Sleep Timer option. On mobile devices, you can access this setting by going to Additional Settings.
In Sleep Timer, you can choose different time limits such as 10, 20, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, or set it to pause playback when the video ends.
YouTube did not provide any information about when this feature will reach a wider audience. There is also no official information about whether the feature will be accessible to Premium users or everyone.
