ChatGPT is now available on many Volkswagen models, including all electric ID series vehicles, the new Golf, Tiguan and Passat. It should be noted that this integration is currently only available in Europe and will later be offered in North America.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI bot has been integrated into Volkswagen’s own voice assistant IDA to complement the service and add more features. This means customers can better communicate with the vehicle using natural language. This allows the assistant to “answer questions on various topics.” IDA was already able to handle voice-controlled climate adjustments and navigation, but the addition of ChatGPT will make everything run more smoothly.
Volkswagen also says the updated voice assistant can give information about tourist attractions, report on football matches and help solve math problems. Volkswagen also underlines that drivers will not need to take their eyes off the road when using this service.
Volkswagen says a query is sent to the cloud only if IDA fails to do so. The query will be sent anonymously so ChatGPT will not receive any of your vehicle data. It can also be completely disabled via the settings area of the Volkswagen application.
