China is preparing to change its civilian drone export rules on September 1, according to the Associated Press. From this date, the export of civilian unmanned aerial vehicles that can be used for military or terrorist attacks will be banned. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce thinks that with the new controls, “the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction will be prevented.”
We cannot know which unmanned aerial vehicles Chinese authorities consider as potential danger. After all, all drones can be useful in different tasks to some degree. The source of the news states that infrared imaging, laser guidance and high-precision measuring devices will be included in the export control lists.
While some export controls will be tightened, others will be relaxed. Specifically, the Associated Press says China has decided to lift temporary restrictions on the export of long-range civilian unmanned aerial vehicles. These were placed on China’s restricted export list last year to prevent their use in the Russia-Ukraine war. Now it looks like these restrictions will be lifted.
It is safe to say that unmanned aerial vehicles have become an integral part of wars. We constantly witness drone attacks and camera footage on social media.
