CrowdStrike CEO: It Will Take Some Time for Systems to Fix

Early this morning, Windows-based systems around the world began crashing and showing the classic Blue Screen error. It turned out that the problem was not caused by Microsoft, but by a faulty software update sent to these systems by the cyber security company CrowdStrike.

CrowdStrike CEO gave his first TV interview since this incident happened today on NBC’s Today program and explained what happened. First of all, he expressed his deep sorrow for everyone affected by this. Kurtz said the company has now resolved the issue and CrowdStrike is working with each customer to get them back online. However, later in the interview he admitted that “some systems that will not automatically recover may take some time to recover.” “Still, we will not give up until every customer is restored to normal,” he added.

This massive Windows system outage caused by a faulty software update from CrowdStrike is already being called by many as the largest IT-based outage in history. Among many other effects, it disrupted the operations of many large companies in Turkey such as Turkish Airlines, Ziraat Bank, Türk Telekom, Turkcell. Two hospitals in Germany announced that they canceled surgeries planned for today, and the UK-based grocery chain Waitrose stopped contactless payments for a short time.

As Technopat, we took a closer look at this information technology-based disruption and suggested various solutions. We hope that necessary precautions will be taken to prevent the same situation from recurring.
