Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that Helldivers 2 PC players will soon need to use a PSN account to continue playing the game. The publisher explained that technical issues with the game’s launch forced Steam to make linking to a PSN account optional. On the other hand, the grace period is about to end and having a PSN account will become mandatory as of Monday, May 6.
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s statement reads: “Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the safety and security values provided in PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games. This is the main way to protect players from upset and abuse by ensuring that players who engage in such behavior are banned. In addition, banned players are also given the right to appeal.
Therefore, starting May 6, all new Helldivers 2 players on Steam will need to link their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account. Existing players on Steam will begin seeing mandatory login information starting May 30, and will need to link a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4. PlayStation Network accounts are free and easy to set up using this link.”
