Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei recently made a deal with another smartphone company, vivo. This agreement allows both companies to use each other’s patents on 5G technology for several years. Huawei holds 5G patents in certain countries, and by paying royalties to Huawei, vivo will now be able to operate in countries where Huawei patents are valid to use 5G technology.
Alan Fan, responsible for Huawei’s Intellectual Property Department, said that the agreement between Huawei and vivo shows that both companies respect and value each other’s patents. This agreement will allow them to collaborate and work together in the future. In addition, they invest money in research together, trying to make their innovations more standardized and accessible to others. We have yet to hear an official statement from vivo.
It must be said that the agreement will help both companies benefit from each other’s technological developments and expand their operations in different countries. Before we forget, this agreement was the second major agreement signed by Huawei in the last 24 hours. By making its first agreement with Amazon, it enabled it to use its patents related to Wi-Fi and video playback globally, especially in Germany.
