Microsoft announced a new feature called Facial Recognition for Entra Verified ID to provide a new layer of security for online businesses and services.
Microsoft Entra Verified ID currently allows businesses to check whether a customer is who they say they are. It also allows people to log in to online services like banking or employee verification.
As its name suggests, the new technology is a facial recognition feature that is in some ways similar to Windows Hello, which is used to log in to a computer. Microsoft says the new feature matches a person’s photo with a verified image of them in their passport or driver’s license using the company’s Azure AI services. It then gives a percentage of how the person’s newly captured image compares to their verified photo.
Businesses can use Microsoft Entra Verified ID Facial Recognition technology for multiple verifications. According to Microsoft, this technology can be used to create business-to-employee passkeys or reset a person’s password.
The company states that it does not store or retain any data obtained from the facial recognition action, only that the business can see the percentage of matches between the new photo and the verified image.
