AMD launched AM5 Socket Ryzen 8000G Desktop APUs along with its other hardware at CES 2024. As most of you know, memory performance is important when it comes to integrated graphics. The Reds also made some RAM suggestions in this context.
To go over it briefly, the last generation APUs combine Zen 4 CPU and RDNA 3 GPU cores. Later-gen chips are also equipped with new Ryzen AI “XDNA” NPUs (8700G and 8600G).
Now let’s talk about RAM. As with past-generation APUs, AMD says the Ryzen 8000G will greatly benefit from the memory configuration included in AM5 systems. The company recommends users have at least a dual-channel DDR5 setup and get a 6000 MT/s (6000 MHz) kit.
The AM5 platform already supports only DDR5 memory. DDR5 RAM prices are no longer as high as before. As a matter of fact, when you buy it, you can choose 2X8 or 2X16 GB memory in kit form, running at speeds around 6000 MHz.
When you have an integrated GPU, you are completely dependent on the memory subsystem on the platform. Well? It means your system RAM will have more impact on GPU performance.
In this regard, AMD promised to support the AM5 platform for a long time. As a matter of fact, it is not unreasonable to invest in AM5 motherboards and DDR5 memory these days. Finally, Ryzen 5 8500G was released at a price of $ 179 and Ryzen 5 8600G was priced at $ 229.
