After being briefly surpassed by Apple in 2023, Samsung once again regained the throne in most global smartphone shipments. IDC Mobile Phone Tracker’s research for the first quarter of 2024 shows that Samsung has regained the leadership it has had since 2010.
Samsung reportedly shipped 60.1 million smartphones worldwide in the first quarter, representing 20.8 percent of the market share. Apple, on the other hand, sold 50.1 million smartphones for 17.3 percent of the market share. Although both companies saw a decrease compared to the first quarter of 2023, Apple’s (-9.6 percent) is much more pronounced than Samsung’s (-0.7 percent). The top five brands remained the same in the first quarter as they did throughout 2023. Xiaomi ranks third with 40.8 million units, Transsion ranks fourth with 28.5 million units, and OPPO ranks fifth with 25.2 million units shipped. It is also noteworthy that Transsion left OPPO behind and ranked fourth.
IDC shows these figures as an indication that the smartphone market is strengthening. Additionally, there is a change of power among the 5 companies, and it is predicted that this situation will most likely continue.
