Tesla announced electric car delivery and production figures for 2023. Accordingly, Elon Musk’s company produced 1.846 million electric cars last year and delivered 1.809 million, surpassing the 2022 deliveries by a large margin of 38 percent. Let us note that these figures include 494,989 electric vehicles produced and 484,507 electric vehicles delivered in the last quarter.
Tesla initially predicted it would sell 2 million vehicles in 2023, but revised that figure downward in its October 2023 earnings report. Still, analyst expectations for the 4th quarter of 2023 have been exceeded.
Tesla produced 476,777 Model 3 and Model Y EVs last quarter and delivered 461,538 of them. These include sales of the renewed “Highland” Model 3. While Elon Musk predicted that Model Y would be the “world’s best-selling car” last quarter, the company did not divide sales between its two most popular models. The company sold 18,212 “other models,” consisting of Model S and Model X electric cars. No sales figures are yet shared for Cybertruck.
Tesla has struggled with some negativity surrounding its electric car lineup, particularly around its Autopilot system, which has been subject to regulatory scrutiny in the US and other countries.
