With an announcement made by Microsoft, Windows 11 24H2 has now become official. While full change lists and exact dates remain a mystery, Microsoft has said that the operating system will receive a major annual feature update later this year under the name “version 24H2,” confirming the latest reference to version 24H2 in official documentation.
The company published the announcement in the release notes for Windows 11 build 26052, which was published on the Dev and Canary Channels on February 8, 2024. As of now 26XXX builds are labeled as version 24H2 in the Settings app and winver. If you’re already on version 26052, just press Win + R and type winver to see for yourself.
“Starting with build 26-xx today, Windows Insiders on the Canary and Dev Channels will see versioning updated to version 24H2 under Settings > System > About (and winver). This indicates that Windows 11, version 24H2 will be this year’s annual feature update. As noted here, Windows 11 will have an annual feature update cadence released in the second half of the calendar year.”
The announcement of the 24H2 version of Windows 11 as this year’s annual feature update also shows that we should not expect anything beyond this in 2024. This month, the “Moment 5” update will bring a few minor changes, with many more coming in version 24H2.
