Necessary permits for driverless taxi have been obtained
Amazon-owned autonomous vehicle company Zoox has announced that its self-driving vehicle, which does not have a steering wheel or pedals, has been approved for testing on public roads. Accordingly, driverless taxis will be able to take to the streets with passengers in California.
According to the statement, the California Department of Motor Vehicles has allowed the robotax to be tested in a limited area within the city of Foster, where the company is headquartered. The vehicle, whose maximum speed is limited to 64 km / h, will only work during daylight hours on Saturday and Sunday. The driverless taxi will also not be able to drive in bad weather conditions.
Robotaxis, which has been tested under certain conditions for a long time, has successfully completed this process. Company officials stated that the vehicle, which was tested on public roads, never stopped, got lost or had any problems. Stating that there were many vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists during this test process, the authorities also underlined that there were many traffic lights and unprotected turns on their routes.
Zoox founder and CTO Jesse Levinson is quite confident that they will emerge successfully from the upcoming period. The vehicle, which is the first purpose-built robotax to hit the roads, is also considered an important step for autonomous vehicles.
