OpenAI has announced that a new plugin will allow the ChatGPT AI chatbot to remember past chats and access it as needed for future chats using this memory feature.
The memory feature has some obvious applications when using ChatGPT. You can ask the chatbot to summarize meetings in a specific format, and it is expected to be able to do so when you ask it to summarize meetings in the future.
Of course, you may have some chat prompts that you want ChatGPT to forget. The new memory feature allows users to tell ChatGPT to forget certain memories so they don’t resurface in the future. You can also go into the chatbot’s settings to turn off the memory feature. OpenAI says it can use the content of your memories to improve and train ChatGPT. Therefore, if you do not want this information to be shared, it may be a logical move to turn off this feature.
Another new feature being tested is ad-hoc chat. When this feature is enabled, your chats will not appear in history and will not be stored in memory. In this sense, it will not be used to train artificial intelligence. A small number of free and paid ChatGPT users will be testing all these memory features this week.
OpenAI also notes that developers who create custom GPT chatbots will soon be able to enable the memory feature. Each custom GPT chatbot will have its own memory. Therefore, anything you keep as memories in the main ChatGPT model will not be available in private GPTs. The memory feature will also be added to custom chatbots once it becomes generally available to standard ChatGPT users.
