Volkswagen (VW) has become the latest automaker to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) for electric vehicles. Subsidiaries Audi, Porsche and Scout Motors will also implement NACS in North American electric vehicles starting in 2025.
VW brands are also considering providing existing model owners with adapters to take advantage of Tesla’s Supercharger network. We should also point out that there are more than 15,000 Supercharger stations in North America. VW’s electric vehicles can be charged at these points, in addition to the more than 3,800 DC fast charging points operated by Electrify America and Electrify Canada.
With many automakers adopting NACS, Tesla’s charging solution is becoming a de facto standard. Even GM, Volvo, Polestar, Mercedes, Honda, BMW, Lucid and others have promised to support NACS charging in the next few years.
